The actual root canal is not as painful as the time you spend suffering before the procedure is done. The nerve of a tooth or the pulp inside the tooth becomes infected. This is usually, but not always, quite painful.
What to expect
First, the dentist does an x-ray. After numbing you, a tiny hole is drilled into the tooth with an infection and washed out of any remaining infection. (This sounds painful, but it’s really not. The infection probably deadened the nerve or even killed it.)
Some doctors fill the root canal right away, some want to give it time to dry out and fill it with a temporary plug. Return for the next appointment even though the pain may be gone. The plug is temporary and may fall out, letting infection back in. More info: root canals austin
