Is Teaching Certification A Requirement?

All states require teachers who instruct students in public schools to obtain a license to practice professionally. Obtaining a license results in becoming certified to teach. This requires obtaining a state-approved bachelor’s degree, submitting an application and paying a fee. Applicants generally must also pass a preparation program and test. Teaching certification can be obtained in a specific category such as early childhood, special education, elementary and secondary levels. Almost all educational programs focus studies in one of these categories, with the exception of vocational teaching. Vocational teachers must be certified and approved, but the required coursework varies based on the subject matter they teach. More info: Illinois Teaching Certification
